Two men were arrested Friday after customs officers boarded and searched the cargo vessel Elitta 1 in Port Purcell and recovered $100,000 in cash, police said.

Two crewmembers were arrested and charged with failing to declare the money: Antonio Joseph Caines, 34, of Duffs Bottom, and Osrick DaSilva, 37, a native of St. Vincent who resides in Belmont, according to a press release from the Police Information Office.

“An envelope containing $90,000 and a paper bag containing $8,700 were found in one of the cabins,” the release states. “An additional $1,594 was found in DaSilva’s possession.”

Failure to declare money to customs is contrary to section 87(4) of the Customs Management and Duties Act 2010.
