It has been just over 100 days since Premier Dr. Orlando Smith and his cabinet were sworn in to office,

and they’re “changing the direction of the territory for the better,” Dr. Smith said in a public address this week.

Aired on local television stations Monday evening, Dr. Smith’s recap of the first three months after the National Democratic Party’s return to government covered many previously publicised government moves: re-establishing a National Business Bureau, lowering import costs for businesses, instituting more ferry service to Anegada, and appointing a new BVI Tourist Board.

Other items were new or still developing.

“My government is in the nascent stages of re-establishing the International Affairs

Secretariat to advise government on all international economic, social, political and other developments that affect the long-term interests of the Virgin Islands,” Dr. Smith said.

The premier also mentioned several legislative and policy reviews.

“We continue to review the trade policy and other relative legislative instruments to better address the development of the private sector,” he said.
