After consultation with Premier Dr. Orlando Smith, Governor Boyd McCleary has appointed Magdaline Rhymer to succeed Antoinette Skelton as chair of the Public Service Commission.

Ms. Rhymer served as government’s chief personnel officer — the position that is now known as director of human resources — from April 1989 until April 2002, when she retired from the public service.

Her new appointment is effective for one year as of Feb. 1, according to Government Information Services.

The governor also thanked Ms. Skelton, who has chaired the PSC since January 2006, for her service.

The Constitution requires the governor, “acting after consultation with the premier,” to appoint one of the five PSC members as chair and to appoint two of the members “acting in his or her discretion.”

The body advises him on appointments, promotions and disciplinary matters in the public service.

The other members are Dawn Smith, Reverend Julian Clarke, Patsy Lake and Ishmael Scatliffe.
