Four teachers from the territory’s public primary schools showed there’s more to teachers than a classroom and a blackboard as they strutted the stage Saturday at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall.

The BVI Teachers Union Pageant was a fundraiser for students who will represent the organisation at the Caribbean Union of Teachers Games in the Bahamas in July.

“Teachers shape future generations,” Kimberly Thompson, who would go on to win the pageant, said as she introduced herself to the audience. “Tonight, I’m here to teach a course in advanced pageantry.”

There was a lot of pressure on Ms. Thompson to capture the crown, she said, because the 2011 Prince and Princess Pageant winners attend her school, Willard Wheatley Primary.
