During a three-day visit next week, sailors from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Wave Knight are scheduled to help renovate the former prison grounds as part of efforts to turn the abandoned facility into a museum.

The ship, which is to arrive Tuesday, is in the region to provide humanitarian aid, disaster relief and counter-narcotics operations, according to a Royal Navy press release.

During their time here, the ship’s officers are to host a series of functions culminating with a reception with Governor Boyd McCleary, Premier Dr. Orlando Smith and other officials.

The Wave Knight’s Command Team will meet with the Department of Disaster Management, touring the island’s disaster relief facilities and demonstrating the ship’s support capabilities, according to the press release.

The ship’s football team is also scheduled to play a Virgin Islands team on March 7.
