Premier Dr. Orlando Smith completed a round of meetings in the United Kingdom during last Thursday and Friday’s Overseas Territories Consultative Council.

In a session with Henry Bellingham, the UK minister for the OTs, the premier discussed the government’s plans to “resuscitate” the Virgin Islands economy, according to Government Information Services.

“Talks with Mr. Bellingham, the OTCC and other meetings were constructive and contributed to a productive week,” Dr. Smith said. “I believe we have helped to set the right tone in the UK-BVI relationship that will serve us well going forward.”

He also told Mr. Bellingham that government would need time to assess the territory’s financial condition and to finalise a fiscal strategy for the future, according to GIS.

The two also discussed the UK’s plans for a new white paper on relations between the UK and its OTs.
