Throughout May, while most residents slept, Nicole Bailey and Deshawne Douglas had to wake up before dawn and report to the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College Bakery in Road Town.

They were interns with the college’s Technical Vocational Education Programme.

The early hours and hard work paid off. They both learned how to make quiches and how to bake, along with other culinary arts.

On Thursday, they joined their classmates for a graduation ceremony at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium at HLSCC.

Among the graduating class were students who specialised in areas including house wiring; air conditioning and refrigeration; plumbing; office and computer application; and small engine mechanics.
