A regional tourism organisation, together with local groups, launched a campaign yesterday aiming to raise public awareness of the importance of tourism.

The “Tourism is Key” campaign, an initiative of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, was unveiled at a joint press conference with the BVI Tourist Board and the BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association.

Alec Sanguinetti, director general of the CHTA, and George de Mercado, the organisation’s director of membership development, made a three-day visit to the territory, meeting with business and government officials to discuss tourism issues.

The CHTA, which represents hotel associations, has launched the campaign in 11 Caribbean countries.
