Terrence Chinnery, a long time softball coach, was honoured on Thursday for his accomplishments and community spirit over the years. His friends and family along with some of the athletes he’s trained joined staff members of FirstCaribbean International Bank in honouring him during the Unsung Heroes Luncheon the bank hosted at Maria’s by the Sea.

Several speakers praised Mr. Chinnery for selflessly giving his time to train children in softball and act as a mentor to many others.

Valentine Fraser, a senior corporate manager at the bank, gave a brief history of Mr Chinnery’s work in softball.

“His causes are part and parcel of his make up and are not undertaken with any expectation of praise or payment,” Mr. Fraser said. “An unsung hero in the true sense of the phrase, Mr. Chinnery’s goal is to guide young people into adulthood as socially and emotionally well-adapted, independent and productive citizens.

Mr. Chinnery began his work with young people in the United States Virgin Islands where he was born, according to the corporate manager. He has since coached many young people including several who have earned academic scholarships to universities in the United States.
