Excitement is building for the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival, which will kick off on Saturday and last through Monday, organisers said.

Sharon Flax-Mars, the vice-chair of the festival committee, said last week that “quite a number” of troupes already have registered for the annual Easter Monday Parade — about the same number as last year, when more than 25 troupes participated.

Registrants include groups representing St. Kitts and the United States Virgin Islands, the organiser said.

Caribbean Ecstasy, a long-time VI group, is among the headliners scheduled to perform during the weekend event. Most of the band’s original members will come in from the US, Ms. Flax-Mars said.

A food fair and the Fungi Fest will be held on Saturday, and seven performers are scheduled to compete for the title of Calypso Monarch on Sunday. The annual Easter Parade will be held next Monday afternoon.
