As part of its efforts to diversify the economy and plan for the future, the territory is seeking technical assistance from the Commonwealth Secretariat, according to Government Information Services.

Currently, the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation is conducting a comprehensive assessment to determine areas for economic growth and development, said Lizette George, director of the Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs.

This month, two CFTC representatives, Jose Maurel and Adeyemi Ogunmefun, visited the territory for the initial phase of the assessment. During their time here, they met government stakeholders to discuss public service, health, tourism, trade, small business and vocational education, according to GIS.

Ms. George said the assessment being conducted in partnership with her department is the first step in determining strategies to bolster the VI economy, which is currently based primarily on financial services and tourism.
