Marsha Hendricks stood in the shade of a makeshift canopy beside Main Street  in Charlotte Amalie, laughing with her two young children as moko jumbies danced toward them on Saturday during the St. Thomas Carnival adult parade.

They were surrounded by family and friends.

The long-time Tortola resident, who grew up in the United States Virgin Islands, typically attends the annual Carnival celebration each year.

“We came over Thursday,” said Ms. Hendricks, who works at Baker Tilly BVI Ltd. “I wanted to attend the horse race, which was wonderful. We won with the Governor’s Cup, so BVI all the way!”

Other VI residents who crossed the water for the celebration participated in the Saturday parade.

In the row of Carnival royalty that followed Grand Marshal Dalton Weekes at the front of the procession, Miss BVI Sharie De Castro, Miss Teen BVI Kamyce Penn, and Miss East End/Long Look Ayana Phillips smiled and waved from convertibles.
