Just Dream outlasted defending champions Terminators to kick off the BVI Amateur Volleyball Association Power League.

The league started on Saturday afternoon with nine of the 13 teams participating in the opening ceremony. BVIAVA President Sabinah Clement outlined a series of new initiates the association will undertake during the year, including a new outdoor synthetic surface court; hosting a world cup qualifier, development of beach volleyball; Mizuno sponsorship of new national team uniforms and the introduction of the B Division for high schools: Elmore Stoutt, Seven-day Adventist, Cedar International School and St. George’s Secondary.

Thanks was also given to national player Jackie Weekes for her contributions and giving back to the sport by creating the Matrix Volleyball Academy — a venture that is supported by the BVIAVA. The president also encouraged others to give back to the sport in whatever way they can by becoming coaches, referees, scorers and so on.  She recognised four players, Aneek Peters, Tamisha Georges, Amadonna Creese and Tyalia Nibbs, who recently completed referee training.

After the ceremony a couple of matches were played.

Just Dream, a combination of former Just Bless and the Moorings Dream Team, needed five sets to stop last year’s champions — the Terminators, 25-17, 24-26, 25-18, 22-25, 15-13.

Canice Marquis led his team to victory with 24 kills and four blocks. Drexel Glasgow had 14 kills and one block.
