A Tortola law firm has re-established an office on Virgin Gorda in the hopes of meeting an underserved niche in the market for legal services.

Susan Demers, a partner at Price Demers & Co., said the firm has had an office in Spanish Town since before 2001, though in recent years it hasn’t been used. The firm now plans to staff the office with Tanya Scantlebury, a senior associate with the firm, on an appointment basis.

“It’s not going to be a walk-in service, at least in the beginning. It may be that as time goes on and the demand evidences itself,” Ms. Demers said, adding that in the coming months she would like to offer notary public services from the office as well.

While several Tortola-based law firms serve clients on VG, they have to travel to meet with clients and lack a permanent presence there, Ms. Demers said.

“We’ve always had a Virgin Gorda clientele, and we find that it’s inconvenient for them always to come over to Tortola in order to give us instructions and discuss their matters with us,” she said.
