Cops: He allegedly ‘brandished’ knife

A male student of the Bregado Flax Educational Centre on Virgin Gorda who suffered serious injuries after a stabbing incident outside the school on Monday is now in stable condition, police said Tuesday.

Police Information Officer Diane Drayton said initial reports suggest that the 16-year-old and another male student were engaged in a fight outside the school.

The 16-year-old, who was allegedly seen brandishing a knife and attempting to stab the other student, collapsed shortly after with a wound to the chest, according to a police press release.

He was rushed to Peebles Hospital by boat, while the other student was treated for minor injuries at the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic on VG and released, the release said.

Police said they interviewed the student involved in the altercation in the presence of a parent. They also interviewed several witnesses.

VG police officers are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing, the release said, adding that no arrests have been made in relation to the incident.
