What do you do with the $200 you win from playing bingo? You plan a trip to St. Thomas to purchase a new bicycle. The winnings may not be quite enough to cover the purchase, but 10-year-old Christian Sommerse isn’t worried.

“I’ve always wanted a bike, so if I see a bike I really like I’m going to buy it,” Christian said shortly after winning a round at the Bingo Night hosted by Brewers Bay seniors on Friday at the Road Town Senior Citizens Centre.

The event, which was attended by about 25 people, was a fundraiser to help members of the Brewers Bay Senior Citizens Programme travel to Atlanta later this year.

The support was appreciated, said Irene Parsons, manager of the Brewers Bay programme.
At the end of the night, the games had raised around $1,000, according to Ms. Parsons, who added that the group will need at least $14,000 to help fund the trip to Atlanta.

“This is the most expensive trip we’ve ever had,” she said.
