Chairs made from vehicle tyres, plastic bottles, plywood, used clothing and shells were on display at Government House during the Chair-ity Exhibition and Auction on Friday.

The event was organised by Nutmeg Designs as a fundraiser for Green VI.

Jo Wilkinson stood at one end of the courtyard with other participants near a chair made of a wine barrel and cushions.

“I am surprised by the creativity and the diversity of the styles of the chairs,” Ms. Wilkinson said. “It is amazing to see that you can highlight something as big as the environment using something that is creative and easily achievable.”

During a silent auction, participants bid on 26 chairs that were displayed from the entrance of the home to the courtyard.

Last year, for the event’s debut, participants crafted 19 chairs, according to Annie MacPhail, the owner of Nutmeg Designs.

The event drew twice as many people as last year, when it was held for the first time at Nutmeg Designs, according to Ms. MacPhail.

This year it raised about $5,000 for Green VI, she said.
