For police to understand what happened on the night Malik Aaron lost his life in a Jan. 19 scooter accident on Beef Island, they need witnesses, according to the Police Information Office.

“We are trying to ascertain what happened on the night of this tragedy,” said Chief Inspector Kenrick Headley of the police Operations Division. “If he did lose control of the motorcycle, was he racing at the time? Were there other factors that precipitated the collision?”

Mr. Headley added that he hopes anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of the accident will come forward and provide details to help bring an accurate account to Mr. Aaron’s family and the Office of the Coroner.

The late-night collision on Jan. 19 resulted in the 22-year-old Havers resident suffering from head injuries after he collided with a concrete pole outside the Beef Island airport tower, according to police.

“There are many presumptions and rumours out there,” Mr. Headley said. “However, investigators must have eyewitness accounts to the collision in order to have accurate details of what transpired to complete investigations.”

Police urge witnesses to contact the Traffic Investigations Unit at 311, or Traffic Unit Inspector Dariel Robinson at 468-9386.
