Virgin Islands residents love to dress up — at least, that was what Jamaican reggae and pop singer Diana King was told.

So she did the best she could, she explained shortly after performing her first song Saturday at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

This meant blue denim, a black top and matching jacket, a red-and-black floral scarf, and bare feet topped with beads.

“I tried to dress up for you tonight. You know: Some beads, a pretty scarf. … You know I like the jeans and T-shirt,” Ms. King said.

The reggae artist performed songs including “Shy Guy,” “No Lies” and Chaka Khan’s “Ain’t Nobody.”
