Ask Reuben Henry about what it means to persevere, and he might well tell you his story.

Twenty years of writing and performing satirical lyrics finally paid off on Sunday at the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival when “King Henry” was named the VG Calypso Monarch for the first time.

Before this week, the closest he had come to the crown was being named runner-up.

On Sunday, Mr. Henry competed with seven other contenders, performing two songs: “This Coming Election” and “Join the Picket Line.”
