The Makos swim team racked up several wins and top finishes at the USVI Swimming Federation Short Course Championships on Jan. 18-19 in St. Thomas.

The team of eight Makos swimmers won or placed in all 32 events entered with Bradford Green taking the High Points Trophy for his perfect score.

Bradford, 8, picked up gold in the boys under-8 25-metre freestyle, the 100-metre individual medley, 25-metre butterfly, 25-metre backstroke, 25-metre breaststroke, and 50-metre freestyle.

Grace O’Reilly, 7, in her debut also had a strong performance. She scored first place in the girls under-8 25-metre and 50-metre freestyle and the 25-metre butterfly. She finished second place overall in her category.

Other gold medal wins came from Dominic Munro, in the boys 9-10 division, who won the 100-metre freestyle and 200-metre freestyle.

Giselle Bowers, in the girls 9-10 division, won the 50-metre backstroke and the 50-metre freestyle. Dominic came second overall, while Lawton Green finished third overall in the boys 9-10 division.

“It was a great event and we’re tremendously proud of how well each and every Makos member did,” said parent and Vice President of the BVI Swim Federation, Ross Munro. “The top placement finishes in all races entered indicates just how far competitive swimming has come in the Virgin Islands over the last few years.”

In total, the Makos team brought home 11 gold, 16 silver and 12 bronze medals.

Seventy-five swimmers from the territory and the USVI  competed in the two-day event at the St. Thomas Swimming Association pool.
