The Ministry of Health and Social Development is planning to launch a partnership geared toward building healthy communities, according to Government Information Services.

The initiative will be launched on Caribbean Wellness Day on Saturday, Sept. 14 in several “pilot” communities, including East End/Long Look, Hope Hill, Belle Vue, Long Trench, Sea Cows Bay, Cane Garden Bay and Virgin Gorda.

Health Promotion Coordinator Ivy George said the community partnership is designed to encourage residents to “take charge of their health,” according to the release.

“Over the past years under the theme ‘Love that Body,’ activities highlighted during Caribbean Wellness Day included eating healthier foods, advocating for smoke-free environments, increasing physical activity, limiting alcohol use, reducing stress, and seeking appropriate preventive care,” she added.
