Heavy rains and stormy weather didn’t stop the thousands of residents and visitors who partied during the two busiest nights at the Festival Village in Road Town.

Several Virgin Islands performers kicked off the Aug. 3 International Reggae Night, which was rounded off by Destra, a soca singer from Trinidad and Tobago.

To start off the evening, Heritage, Imo and Shine I each took the stage to warm up the crowd. As Shine I sang, the audience steadily grew, drawn by his energised performance. But soon, a sudden downpour abruptly ended the show, causing the audience to seek shelter under the booths set up throughout the Festival Village.

Junior Reid, a Jamaican dancehall and reggae singer, resumed the show after the rain delay with a 45-minute performance. When he sang “One Blood,” the audience erupted in applause and began to sing along.

The excitement at the village was reignited Saturday. The zouk band Kassav performed early in the night. Despite their early start, thousands of revellers had gathered in front of the stage.
