Fifty troupes and thousands of residents and visitors in Cruz Bay, St. John yesterday celebrated in the Caribbean carnival style: colourful costumes, festive recorded and live music, and majorettes and dancers of various ages.
Parade participants included representatives from around the greater Virgin Islands, including the St. Thomas Majorettes, the BVI Elite Sky Dancers, and “royalty” like the St. Croix Festival prince and princess, Miss BVI Sheroma Hodge and Miss Teen BVI Sylvanna Charles.
In addition to the usual bright costumes, there was also plenty of red, white and blue at the parade, as the Westin Resort and Villas troupe, one of the biggest, chose to honour veterans of the United States armed forces and distributed US flags.
