Sixteen secondary students on Tortola and Virgin Gorda completed the BVI Tourist Board’s Tourism Work Experience internship programme during their spring break.

For 10 days, the students were immersed in various job roles, according to a BVITB press release.

Under the supervision of managers at some of the industry’s largest companies and resorts, the teens learned about topics including hospitality, copper artistry, boat maintenance, the marine industry, customer service, food-and-beverage management and accommodations, the press release said.

Some of their tasks involved rebuilding boat engines, making pastries, managing communications, monitoring visitor check-ins and departures and assisting with water sports activities and property maintenance.

“We want our youth to experience these roles firsthand in order to garner a clear perspective of how things work and how we’re connected in building Brand BVI,” said Carnel Clyne, product development officer at the BVITB.
