Heavy rain on Saturday didn’t deter about 200 people from showing up to watch Virgin Islands performers take the stage at Prospect Reef.

For more than four hours, the second annual Bridging the Gap concert showcased artists from this territory and the United States VI as attendees waved flags and lighters.

The reggae-heavy show — which included Empress Ruth, Ritseenyah, Niyora, Apostle, Kirk Adams and others — was organised in part to spread the word about the local music scene.

“What I’ve seen is that VI artists are working diligently to be a part of the production,” said Tortola reggae artist Darius Semper, who performs as Shine-I. “We want people to know that they are doing it.”

Adell Semper, an organiser, said she was mostly pleased with the event.

“The performances were good,” she said, “but we would have liked a better attendance.”
