The talk among the passengers in row 19 of JetBlue flight   807 from Boston to St. Thomas on Dec. 30 turned quickly to plans for New Year’s Eve. And the three American women, who were vacationing in the Virgin Islands for the first time, knew exactly where they would be the next night: Foxy’s on Jost Van Dyke.

Several thousand other people had the same idea, as the island filled up with revelers ready to ring in 2012, one of many celebrations that occurred across the territory.

On another end of the territory, thousands gathered to watch fireworks at Trellis Bay.

Churches around the territory also organised services in celebration of the New Year.
