When Althea Scatliffe Primary School student Yeuri Hachett arrived  at school last Wednesday, some of his friends didn’t recognise him. The class four student wore a wig, a long skirt and a pair of high heels, and he stuffed his shirt.

He was dressed to depict Madea, a character from Tyler Perry’s movies, he explained.

Almost all the students and teachers dressed up the same day: It was Wacky Wednesday, an event held to raise funds for the coming graduation ceremony, according to Roxanne McNeil, a class five teacher.

“We were thinking of ways to make some money to help with the graduation ceremony,” Ms. McNeil said.

One hundred and eleven students from class five may be graduating at the end of the month, and the school tries to make sure all graduates get a present, according to the teacher.
