Fifteen performers took the microphone, dishing out lyrics that advocated for change, during the Calypso Elimination Competition held on Saturday at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall.

At the end of the competition, nine calypsonians were tapped to compete at the calypso show scheduled for July 23 as a precursor to the August Emancipation Festival.

Sista Joyce opened up the competition. In “We Protesting,” she took a jab at high rent prices.

“This is going out to all of you who are being molested by Mr. and Mrs. High House Rent,” sang the performer, the first of two female calypsonians to take the stage.
