The aroma of food from throughout the Caribbean filled the air as children played traditional Virgin Islands games Saturday at the Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church’s International Cultural Day.

For $10, attendees could sample recipes such as stew fish from Antigua, almond sugar cake from the VI, and even McDonald’s fast food from St. Thomas. Other countries represented included St. Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, Jamaica, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The wide array of food and beverages weren’t all radically different. For instance, several tables served versions of rice and peas.

Some of the biggest differences between the tables were not in their food, but their drinks.

“It’s a secret,” laughed a man representing St. Kitts when he was asked about the ingredients in the table’s sweet brown sugar concoction. “If I told you, other countries would try to jump on board.”

Though the food and beverages were the main attractions at the event, there were also several games for youngsters.
