Friendship Day: “Ole Tyme Tings: Celebrating the Ties that Bind Us” will be the theme of this year’s VI/USVI Friendship Day, which kicks off this evening at the Emile Griffith Ballpark with a fast-pitch softball game. Celebrations continue tomorrow at 9 a.m. with breakfast, a cultural presentation, and a walking tour of the historic district of Charlotte Amalie.

Run/Walk for a Cure: The BVI Cancer Society is hosting a run/walk from Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park to New Life Baptist Church and back. The walk begins at 5:30 a.m. Call 441-0023.

Happy hour: Head to Da Spot in Baughers Bay for happy hour from 5-7 p.m. There will be specials on drinks and wings.

Sunday

Soap box derby: Caribbean Insurers and the BVI Motorsports Association will host a soap box derby at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College. The event will include races and other family-friendly fun. Call 340-7879.

English roast: Brandywine Estate Restaurant serves up traditional roast beef with the trimmings including gravy, vegetables horseradish and Yorkshire puddings. Call 495-2301.

Karaoke: The Rock Café on Virgin Gorda hosts karaoke every Sunday from 7 p.m. and offers live music on other nights. Call 495-5482.

Domino tourney: Use the St. Ursula’s Day holiday to show off your domino skills at Club Opium for Clash of the Titans beginning at noon. Registration costs $20, and the winner takes all. The event will include entertainment from DJ Dre and DJ Mac Milli, plus prizes for the domino runner-up and best dancer.

Slow season: It’s slow season and many establishments are closed for a few weeks. This might be a good time to explore one of the territory’s many beaches, museums, hiking trails or historical sites.

Glass-bottom boat tour: Sea It Clear glass bottom boat tours re-opened for the season this week, and is celebrating its second year in business by offering discount reef trips until Oct. 29. Call 343-9537.
