Marlon Senhouse, who is accused of assaulting two police officers in Brandywine Bay on Sept. 6, 2012, took the stand in his own defence during a trial that began in Magistrates’ Court Tuesday.

Mr. Senhouse is charged with giving a false name, assaulting police, using insulting language, and resisting arrest.

About halfway through his testimony — during which he admitted to most of the offences — Crown Counsel Herbert Potter asked him a pointed question: “Are you aware that you can change your plea at any time?” he said, before asking the defendant if he wished to do so.

“No, no, no,” said defence attorney Stephen Daniels, rising quickly from his seat. “You can’t give my client legal advice.”

After a brief silence, Magistrate Dr. Velon John interjected.

“Let’s move on,” he said.

A judgment is scheduled for Tuesday.

The police officers involved in the incident, Marvin Robinson and Wendell Anthony, also took the stand this week. Both are currently suspended from duty for an unrelated matter: They are jointly charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in a case involving Brandon George, who later died in a motor scooter accident on Sept. 27, 2012.
