A 76-year-old tourist died while swimming to the beach from a boat near The Baths on Virgin Gorda on Tuesday, authorities said.

The body of Orien Pass, of Florida, was recovered from the water at Devils Bay around noon, according to a press release from the Police Information Office.

“He reported having difficulties while swimming to shore from a sailing vessel,” the release stated. “He was brought to the shore in an unconscious state.”

Attempts to resuscitate Mr. Pass were unsuccessful. The cause of death is still being determined, according to the release.

In November 2012, a 54-year-old man visiting from Kentucky died after scuba diving in the same area. He was assisted to shore near the The Baths after a dive because he was having difficulty, and while on shore he collapsed, authorities said at the time.
