For the second year, Virgin Islands residents will have a chance to see Broadway-quality theatre productions without leaving the territory.

The National Theatre Live series, which began in 2009, was conceived to bring high-end theatre productions to a broader audience in the United Kingdom by screening them in movie theatres.

Funded in part by the Arts Council England, each show is “filmed in front of a live audience in the theatre,” the NTL explains.

Rather than the traditional single-camera filming, however, NTL productions are special because they’re filmed from “the 10 best seats in the house,” said Natasha Menensez, one of the series’ VI organisers.

“It’s shot from all the best angles,” Ms. Menensez said.

The first play in the series, which will be shown Saturday at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, based on a book of the same name. The main character, a young man named Christopher, tries to solve the mystery of the violent killing of his neighbour’s dog.

All showings of the BVI Theatre Series take place in the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College. Tickets cost $20 at the door or $15 in advance.

Other plays will be shown at the following times at HLSCC.
