There are several hundred varieties of hibiscus flower, and many of them were on display Sunday afternoon in the Central Administration Building during the annual flower show hosted by the BVI chapter of the American Hibiscus Society.

“I think it was one of the best shows we’ve had in a long time,” said Clarice Lettsome, president of the society.

The event is normally held at the J.R. O’Neal Botanic Gardens, but the group was happy to move indoors this year.

“Having it in air conditioning made the flowers last a lot longer,” said Jinx Morgan, the society’s public relations officer.

Most of the more than 100 blooms entered in the competition were from society members, said Mary Radnick, treasurer, but a few were submitted by other members of the public.
