In celebration of its 40th anniversary, the Lions Club of Tortola will host a fundraising dinner at The Moorings Mariner Inn at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Besides raising money for equipment at Peebles Hospital, the 40th anniversary celebrations will include recognition of charter members and past presidents, according to a press release from the club.

A keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Joel Stevens, a kidney transplant and vascular access specialist who is a board member of the BVI Health Services Authority.

Dr. Stevens is to highlight the rapid growth in the number of dialysis patients in the Virgin Islands and to explore the root causes and effects of the phenomenon.

Funds raised will go toward a public-private partnership the club and its partners have formed with the BVI Health Services Authority.

The partners are raising money toward the purchase of a second set of renal access instruments and an ultrasound machine for Peebles Hospital, according to the press release. The purchases are designed to improve the quality of renal access surgery at Peebles Hospital.

Tickets are $75 for singles and $140 for couples.
