Beauty goes beyond designer clothing, expensive bags and makeup, Donalin Mitchell said during a skit she performed at the Miss Gorgeous Pageant Saturday night at the Virgin Gorda Catholic Community Centre.

“The true beauty of a woman isn’t in the jewellery she wears,” said Ms. Mitchell, who would go on to win the competition. “The true beauty of a woman is substance.”

The public officer, a mother of one, competed against Sharlene David and Sasha McKie as the nearly 200 attendees cheered and shouted encouragements.

The pageant, which caters to mothers and full-figured women, was one of several planned fundraisers for the upcoming VG Easter Festival.
