Cedar International School recycled about 85 percent of the waste produced during its annual Night of Nations fundraiser on Saturday, organisers said.

More than 400 people attended the international food fair, where there were 150 dishes to choose from, according to a CIS press release.

“All garbage bins were removed from the premises, forcing customers to dispose of their waste at [a] recycling station,” the press release said. “Volunteers stood by to guide folks to dispose of their cups and plateware into correct bins. There were only four bins allocated for each type of waste: one for food, one for aluminium cans, one for plateware/plastics and one for ‘think about it.’”

Though they had hoped to recycle 95 percent of the event’s waste, organisers were satisfied with the result, as some vendors supplied items that weren’t recyclable, the press release said.
