Students at the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies transformed their basketball court into a dinner tent and hosted nearly 150 guests on Saturday evening.

Caribbean music played softly in the background as attendees were seated around formally set tables under dim lights during the first Taste of the VISTS event.

Besides raising funds, the dinner was organised to showcase students’ talents, said Clifton Forbes, the school’s assistant principal.
“It was a success,” Mr. Forbes said. “We had a good turnout, and the students displayed their skills and talents to the audience.”

Despite a late start, guests were treated to a meal prepared by the school’s hospitality and culinary students, a fashion and hair show by the cosmetology students, and a car show organised by Tortola Race Wars and auto mechanic students.

School authorities plan to make the event an annual occurrence, helping to raise funds that will be used to offer more subjects, Mr. Forbes said.
