However, Police Information Officer Diane Drayton said that police cannot provide any details about the investigation.

The 22-year-old, who worked at Colonial Insurance BVI, was last seen leaving her home in Hope Hill on Jan. 27, 2016.

Her body was later recovered in the Hawks Nest area of Tortola on March 30.

Deputy Police Commissioner Alwin James confirmed at the time that police are dealing with the matter as a murder enquiry.

At a three-hour candlelight vigil held for Ms. Smith in Road Town in May, friends and family came together to honour her memory.

“She was a loving, kind person,” said her former English instructor, Natalio “Sowande Uhuru” Wheatley. “In my class she worked hard and never caused a problem.”

Curnal Fahie, one of the victim’s cousins, also implored the public to provide police with any information about her death.

“We want to admonish the public to come forward,” he said. “Let’s not keep silent: Let’s speak out. Let’s give Nickera a voice.”

Information can be reported to the Major Crime Team directly at 368-5682 or the Intelligence Department at 368-9339.

Tips can also be reported anonymously through the Miami-based Crime Stoppers hotline, 800-8477.
