A small crowd cheered on Monday as the BVI National Culinary Team entered the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport with medals earned at the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association’s annual Taste of The Caribbean competition held last week in Miami.

All told, team members brought home five gold, one silver and three bronze medals, according to Government Information Services.

The team spent nine months preparing, according to team coach Henry Prince, a chef at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

At the event, the team participated in qualifying rounds of “live kitchen” competitions, preparing a three-course meal in less than four hours using a mystery basket of ingredients.
