By the time she was 16 weeks old, Piper, a German shepherd, was already taking obedience lessons. She enjoyed the training so much that she’s now a search-and-rescue dog.

During the BVI Humane Society Dog Show on Saturday at Captain Mulligan’s, she displayed her obedience skills for more than 100 spectators.

“Sit. Stand. Come,” Jeff Brown commanded the canine, who followed the instructions swiftly, drawing a round of applause from attendees.

Piper, who was among nearly 50 dogs at the show, easily won the “most obedient” category.

Vijay Bissoondutt, a manager at the BVI Humane Society, said the event was a success, with 29 canines participating in various contests.

“The attendance was good, even though we had a lot of people who had dogs but didn’t bring them out,” he said.
