When Mark Plaxton was invited to perform with his daughter Olivia at the Dance Fest on Saturday, he thought the routines would be easy to learn.

He was wrong, but over several weeks he eventually mastered the steps, bonding with his daughter and other fathers in the process, he said.

They were among about a dozen father-daughter pairs who performed at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall on Saturday during the annual dance recital, which is organised by the BVI Dance School.

“I tell you what, it was a spiritual, absolutely phenomenal experience,” Mr. Plaxton said after the performance. “The fact is, the time together as father-daughter was amazing.”

About 200 children took the stage during the event, dancing to music genres including hip-hop, jazz, tap and soca.
