Debora Davis was worried about her partner’s commitment to their relationship, so she decided to get an HIV test just to be on the safe side.

On Friday, she lined up with more than 100 other people during the Regional HIV Testing Day organised by Scotiabank at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park.

Within an hour after she arrived, she had results for her blood sugar and cholesterol levels, as well as her HIV test.
“Everything was okay, even though I was a bit nervous,” she said.

With her doubts cast away, Ms. Davis plans to start practising safe sex.

“The Lord has been saving me, so from now on I have to start being careful,” she said. “He can only save me this much.”

Nearby, Noelene Levons-Clarke, coordinator of the National AIDS Programme, was chatting with a few other participants about the proper use of condoms.

Test officials were targeting participants who had never been tested for HIV, according to Ms. Levons-Clarke.
“It was a good day,” she said. “Though the flow was not as much as we saw last year and previous years, I am happy for all who came out.”
