Police recorded the locations of about 15 small marijuana fields during a helicopter flight over Tortola and Virgin Gorda this week.

Members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force joined Lieutenant Oliver Bundock and crew for the reconnaissance mission on Monday morning.

Mr. Bundock is the sole pilot stationed on the RFA Mounts Bay, a civilian-manned Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship that was docked in Road Town for five days this week.

“We were going round and doing a survey of the islands and identifying the spots,” he told press during a tour of the ship on Monday afternoon. “This morning was great. We found a lot of different marijuana fields in about an hour and a half.”

He explained that they used an on-board camera and “all eyes out of the window” to locate the fields.

“We could identify different areas; you could see clearings and see bits of area where [marijuana] was growing,” he said.

Most of the fields were spotted high up in the mountains where tarpaulins or other identifying farming equipment was visible, according to Mr. Bundock.
