Contractors are now expected to finish the Nurse Iris O’Neal Medical Centre on Virgin Gorda by September instead of July as previously scheduled, government announced last Thursday.

The building’s steel frame and columns are completed, and the builder, James Todman of James Todman Construction Limited, plans to do block work on the structure next, according to Government Information Services.

From there, Mr. Todman’s company will work to complete the installation of windows and roofing.

Once completed, the two-storey medical centre will include urgent care facilities; a pharmacy; x-ray and laboratory services; dentistry and physical therapy services; and consultation and examination rooms, according to GIS.

The September 2017 timeline represents a slight delay from previous announcements. As recently as last September, Health and Social Development Minister Ronnie Skelton (R-at large) said he planned to have a grand opening in July.

A November GIS press release echoed that timetable, noting that Mr. Todman was expected to finish constructing the building by next summer.
