The BVI Ports Authority is seeking bids from contractors to replace the ferry terminal in West End and build a new protective barrier in front of the main public dock facilities in Virgin Gorda, officials said this week.
The tender documents, which were issued Friday, call for the projects to be completed at a combined cost of $5 million — a maximum of $3 million for West End and $2 million for VG.
Both projects are to be funded in part by a $35 million loan approved by House of Assembly members in April to finance a collection of government projects.
Work on both docks is expected to begin by next year, according to BVIPA Communications Manager April Glasgow, and tenders are due by 4 p.m. on Oct. 10.
Bidders for the West End works are being asked to submit proposals “for the design and construction of a new or newly renovated ferry terminal, ferry dock and ancillary facilities,” according to the tender notice.
The VG project involves the creation of a new bulkhead between the dock and the VG Yacht Harbour, Ms. Glasgow said.
