Aeden Ortiz’s Father’s Day present came a few hours early on Saturday as he watched his 8-year-old daughter Kayle dance publicly for the first time at the BVI Children’s Dance Fest.

Mr. Ortiz was among more than 1,000 people who packed the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall, where nearly 300 children between the ages of 2 and 18 performed one piece after another.

“I was shocked,” Mr. Ortiz said. “It was a perfect gift for me. I couldn’t ask for more.”

As supporters cheered, members of the BVI Dance School, St. George’s Liturgical Dancers and Adagio Dance School performed several genres, including ballet, hip-hop, salsa and jazz.
