Who makes the best fungi and fish? The BVI Tourist Board hopes to find out during a competition scheduled to take place on Nov. 7 at the Queen Elizabeth II Park as part of this year’s Food Fete.

BVITB officials announced this and other new additions to the annual event during a launch Monday at Callwood’s Rum Distillery in Cane Garden Bay.

Food Fete activities designed to showcase the Virgin Islands’ culinary culture are planned throughout November, including bar crawls, food demonstrations and restaurant specials, tourism officials said.

“It has always been a goal of the BVI Tourist Board to promote and enhance what is truly unique about the BVI,” BVITB Director Sharon Flax-Mars told attendees.

After the success of a Virgin Gorda bar crawl held last year, two additional bar crawls have been added this year.

The “Jost Crawl” will be held Nov. 8 at Jost Van Dyke, with VG’s “On the Rocks Bar Crawl” on Nov. 21 and Anegada’s “Lobster Crawl” on Nov. 27.

Other culinary events throughout the month will highlight chefs from Germany, the VI, New York and Puerto Rico, she said.

The Barefoot Gourmet Soiree on Peter Island on Nov. 14 will raise money to fund scholarships for VI students who wish to study hospitality, and activities will conclude with the Anegada Lobster Fest on Nov. 28 and 29.
