It wasn’t just homes and businesses that were flooded out during the torrential rains on Aug. 7 and 8. The water was so high in some areas that it damaged many vehicles, some of which were literally swept away.

Now owners are scrambling to get their rides in order, but many are finding that their dealers were hit as hard as they were.

International Motors closed its dealership for about two weeks to clean up the mud and water that flooded its locations at Fish Bay and Road Town, costing the business about half a million dollars, said Peter Sorrentino, a company director.

A week after the storm, the servicing aspect of the business reopened, but the sales department didn’t resume operations until Monday of this week, according to businessman.
“We’ve been here [for many years] and we’ve never seen anything close to this,” he said.

Though company representatives hadn’t yet met with their insurance company, Mr. Sorrentino was optimistic.
“We’re confident they would reimburse us for most of our losses,” he said.
